Retailers- make your brand eco friendly

    by Administrator

    22
    Jul

If you are part of a retail business, then make sure you look into reducing your carbon footprint. New government schemes are in place to help encourage you to produce less waste, recycle more and use better sources of energy, so take advantage of the rewards they offer for this and make sure you set about doing your best possible job to make your business eco friendly.

It is amazing the small things that can make a difference when you think about it in terms of building up. Always make sure, for example, that customer and staff facilities are well maintained. A leaky tap or non energy saving bulb can mean that resources go down the drain and you ultimately lose out financially. Insulation and double glazing for your building is also important, to reduce energy bills. Try and get help subsidising fitting solar panels too, for renewable energy, as the government can help with this.

If you offer customers free samples, then you could use plastic washable plates and recycled paper cups that can be used again. In the staff room, you could use mugs instead of plastic cups on the water dispenser, as they will only end up in the bin and wasted. Make sure you look into locally sourced produce to sell and do the same for suppliers of your office equipment and so on. The closer to home you can source things, the more you are able to reduce your carbon footprint.

For customers, do think of offering alternatives such as cloth bags (you can have these decorated with a lovely brand slogan or logo to promote your company) and other reusable items such as this. Steer clear from paper and plastic bags, as these are both very bad for the environment. You could offer an incentive for customers using own bags, as this will help you overall and mean that you have to ship less of such supplies in.

Make sure too, that you recycle your cardboard and waste paper using the government schemes. The majority of plastic can also be recycled too now, so look into making sure the least possible of things go into the landfill from your site. Do make an effort to stock brands that are eco friendly in packaging and maybe go as far as to refuse to stock those who use excess plastic and suchlike on their products, boycotting them until they fix this.

These are such basic level things, but if you train staff to make sure that such measures are put in place (like encouraging reusable bags at the checkout, and making sure discarded magazine leaflets, labels and cardboard are put out for recycling, not in the bin), then you are making excellent steps in the right direction.

5 Simple Everyday Ways to Become More Environment Friendly

    by Administrator

    21
    Jun

Saving the environment has become one of the top priorities of, not only the Member States of the EU, but also of governments around the world. With modern science, between upgrades and new gadgets, there has been a vast amount of breakthroughs that now enable you, as an individual, to help the environment through both what you buy and what you throw away. So check out these top five simple ways of helping the environment today!

    1: The Reusable Bag

Many people discard the idea of using reusable bags, such as the “bag for life” and the woven bags. However, did you know that we, as a planet, use over 500 billion bags a year? The majority of which are non-recyclable and take hundreds of years to decompose back into the earth. So pass on the message to your friends and family and get yourself a bag for life today.

    2: The Car Journey

Car fumes account for over 20% of all toxic emissions today and yet many of us are still content with using our car for small trips to the local corner shop rather than walking. Understandably time is precious, however, walking has been proven to not only improve fitness, but also lower cholesterol, increase dopamine levels (making you happier) and has even been found to reduce stress! Let’s not forget that you will also be saving money,
so next time you need some milk think about the benefits of walking before you sit in your car.

    3: Use a Car Wash?

Did you know that a car wash uses less than half of the amount of water that we use when we actually decide to do it ourselves? In truth we use around 80 – 140 gallons of water when a car wash uses only 45, meaning that if you’re looking to wash your car this summer make sure you either a) take it to a car wash or b) if possible, park it on your lawn to maximise your water usage (two birds, one stone).

4: Recycle/Resell Your Old Computer Parts

We are now in the electronic age and with it comes one of our most used items… the computer (and laptop). When our computers breakdown and they cannot be repaired (or costs too much to repair) many of us decide to simply throw it in the skip. However, with a quick search online you can now find many companies that will pay for your laptop or computer parts, they will also erase all data so that your data is only known by you. So in full you not only get money for what you would throw out, but you will also be recycling your old electronics, which helps the environment.

    5: Energy Saving Light Bulbs

Energy saving light bulbs may be more expensive than others however, they have a longer life, up to as much a 10 times longer (some even boast 10 years) this not only saves you money by not needing to buy new ones, but also saves you money on your electricity bill.

Now these are just some small, quick tips that you can implement quickly there are, as you may have guessed, a million other ways you can help. Other such ways include electric, water and gas usage monitors, solar panels, taking cloths to the charity shop and many more methods
